Grove Curriculum

Grove provides an excellent art, physical education and music program for all students.

Fourth and fifth grade students may participate in our Eagleaire Singing Group or participate in a weekly Chess Club. Other programs include Native American Education; and Learning for Life, an anti-drug and alcohol abuse program.

Camp Catch is also offered by the YMCA four days a week after school. This program encourages good health and fitness.

Character Counts! is a district-wide program. It gives us a common language and encourages outstanding character traits. A new character trait is introduced each month. The six traits that are emphasized are Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Trustworthiness, Fairness and Citizenship.

Some activities are school-wide, such as assemblies, character quotes of the day and award presentations for showing good character.

Other activities take place in the context of classroom such as discussions regarding current events or storybook characters and the life lessons demonstrated throughout history.

Ellen Ochoa offers an English Learner curriculum to those students for whom English is not a primary language. Students participate in small group instruction that focuses on the English language.

The Extended Day Program (EDP) provides safe, alternative educational child care, enhancing the child’s extended day. Recognizing the busy lifestyles of today’s family, the district attempts to work in partnership with home and parents by providing before and after school supervision at the school site.

Our school provides a gifted/talented program with a full-time enrichment specialist.

All students in grades 3-5 participate in a Mental Olympiad conducted annually.

One of our special events is the always-popular "egg drop" made possible with the help of the Tulsa Fire Department.

Student Council

Grove students also participate in a Student Council.  Each fall the students campaign for offices and monthly meetings are held with room representatives from grades 3-5.  The Student Council sponsors activities during the year and runs the school store on Friday mornings.

Looping is offered for first and second grades as well as in grades three and four. 

Our fifth grade is contained for reading, language and spelling, and departmentalized for math, social studies and science.

A full-time media specialist works hard to ensure that students are able to access grade level books that interest them.

Classroom teachers and media specialist collaborate to conduct classroom research projects, host author visits, and teach library and resource skills.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) at Union Public Schools is an interdisciplinary approach to learning that encourages students to inquire, explore, and problem solve.
